Homicide Investigation Update

Authorities continue to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred on March 6, 2026, in the Bylas District of San Carlos, Arizona.

Officers with the San Carlos Apache Police Department responded to reports of a shooting and discovered a victim who had sustained gunshot wounds. The individual was transported to the EMS Sub-Station for emergency treatment but was later pronounced deceased by medical personnel from the San Carlos Apache Health Care Center. The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Tashon Gambler.

Investigators determined that the shooting took place near the Bylas Fitness Center. Following the incident, the victim was taken to the nearby EMS Sub-Station in an effort to receive immediate medical care.

During the course of the investigation, authorities identified 24-year-old Brandon Hinton as a suspect. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and worked in coordination with agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The FBI’s Evidence Response Team also assisted with processing the crime scene.

Hinton was later located along U.S. Highway 70 and taken into custody. At the time of his arrest, authorities reported that he was in possession of a handgun.
