Fatal Snowmobile Accident Claims Life of Nicolas Demers

A tragic snowmobile accident in Sainte-Irène, Quebec, has claimed the life of Nicolas Demers, a well-known figure in the Matapédia region and a former participant on the television program L’Amour est dans le pré.

According to preliminary reports, the collision occurred Thursday afternoon at approximately 3 p.m. on a federation trail near Lake Gauthier Road. Authorities say Demers, 43, was traveling alone on his snowmobile when he reportedly failed to negotiate a curve and struck a tree.

A friend who was riding behind him on another snowmobile is believed to have witnessed the crash and quickly contacted emergency services.

First responders arrived shortly afterward; however, despite their efforts, Demers sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A collision investigator was dispatched to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officials indicated that no criminal activity is suspected at this time. The trail was temporarily closed between Branche-Nord Road and the 8th Rang in Val-Brillant while authorities conducted their investigation and secured the area.

Demers was widely recognized throughout the Matapédia region for his work as a farmer and cattle producer. He also gained broader recognition after appearing in the 2016 pre-broadcast of the fourth season of L’Amour est dans le pré. In addition to his agricultural work, he was known for his involvement in local initiatives and community activities.

News of his passing spread quickly across the region, with friends, neighbors, and community members sharing tributes online in remembrance of his energy, generosity, and dedication to those around him.

The precise circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. Details regarding Demers’ obituary, funeral arrangements, and memorial services have not yet been released by his family.
